A LONELY EVENING…

I had just finished the articles that Liz assigned to me a couple of days ago unfortunately, due to the lack of internet connection; we’re unable to post it on their respective blogs. Apparently, SMART has a network problem since whenever I try to connect online, I keep on getting the following error message:

The connection was terminated by the remote computer blah blah.

And this has been going for almost two days now, meaning two days of no but PAID internet connection. Frankly, I am really disappointed with their service. Lack of internet connection has caused us some serious problems not to mention the fact that this is not a good time to be having no internet access. I just hope SMART could at least extend our unlimited surfing for two more days since I doubt that they have the means to refund the money I paid just to get network connection for 5 days. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d give us a hard time getting compensated for the trouble and it’s more likely that we’ll hear a ton of the usual corporate apologies their agents are trained to say to frustrated and dissatisfied customers than some satisfactory resolution.

“Oh, we’re sorry for the inconvenience sir. Would you like me to undress for you to compensate for the trouble?”

I’ve been in the customer service industry long enough to know corporate bullshit. Anyway, my apologies for the rant it’s just that the continuous rain has been giving me some trouble. Other than the network problem, Liz was unable to return to my place after meeting up with her younger sister at the Gil Puyat LRT terminal. There was no available transportation so she was forced to go home to her place instead without enough preparation. In fact, she was supposed to bring JTMS with her on her way home after having lunch at my place earlier today. But thanks to the bad weather, there was not much transportation which got Liz stranded in Gil Puyat LRT terminal with no other option but to go home to her place in Pasig instead.

Well, maybe not…

It was not that bad except for the fact that she has my mobile unit with her since she had her SMART sim card inserted in my mobile unit the reason being that her cell phone has some trouble sending messages. And since the SMART broadband can’t even send a text message I had to rely on my younger brother’s mobile unit instead. Good thing my younger brother’s cell phone unit was registered to a globe texting promo which allowed me to keep in touch with Liz. As soon as I was sure that Liz got home safely, I decided to sleep since there was nothing productive to do.

I woke up at around six in the evening and decided to have dinner before opening up Chandler so that I could start working on the articles. Unfortunately, the internet was still fucked up so I just decided to watch some random anime stored in Chandler. Good thing that Liz was able to get the topics of the articles which I needed to work on while she was in the office. As soon as I finished watching, I immediately worked on the articles. I decided to listen to some music as I accomplished the tasks. It was already past midnight when I finished everything but I was not yet tired of listening to one particular song. I am not really sure what the song’s title was but I find it melancholic and nostalgic at the same time. I even wrote the song’s lyrics on my notepad. It was just unfortunate that I was not able to find the more completed song. And the song is in Japanese and it came from the movie 20th Century Boys. It’s one of the best movies I watched so far. I am even planning to write a blog post about it one of these days.

“Keeeenji-kun, asobi mashou!”

But right now we’re just hoping that we’ll be able to post the finished articles before the deadline without much trouble. I just hope that Liz gets here soon since it’s started to rain real hard again.

JUST A SHORT WEATHER REPORT…..

It is already 5:31 in the morning and the rain has not stopped one bit. It is not looking good outside. The water is slowly rising. Furthermore, water was slowly seeping out of the shower room’s drainage where it normally does not happen. It only means that the sewage system has seriously gotten flooded. Not a good sign. The truth was that the weather has been like this for almost a week. I can’t really remember when exactly but it has been raining non-stop with literally just a few moments of sunlight passing through before raining again big time.

And just as I am writing this particular entry, the rain just suddenly poured down again real hard. The rain did lessened a while ago but then again, it was only for a short while before it poured real badly again. If it continues like this for another day or two and I mean, literally raining for a whole 24-48 hour, it won’t be long before this place becomes part of the Pacific Ocean. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating. The North Bay in this place’s case…Other parts of city have all but become flooded and it is just a matter of time…So much for my plans to play at Titan Libis’ Game Day event later tonight. Not that it would matter if the aforementioned statements came true.

For the meantime, I’ll probably go outside to buy some freshly-baked bread, probably trudging on the flooded streets, while keeping the big raindrops off my head with my umbrella.

SOME WEATHER UPDATES….

August 7th, 2012, 6:54am, I still haven’t bought any freshly-baked bread since Liz was still busy with Chandler. And yes, the rain hasn’t stopped yet nor does it look like it will for the next few hours. With this kind of bad weather, I am doubtful that I would be able to participate in the Game Day tournament in Libis later this evening. I mean, I’d love to but not a practical one to make right now, especially that it’s almost a two hour travel from where I live. I could only hope for a better weather but right now, it doesn’t look like it will change for the better.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

I am currently staying here at a 7/11 convenient store, having coffee. Well, in this case, “was” staying at the 7/11 convenient store next to Raffle’s building where Liz currently works. I had JTMS, the Lenovo netbook, where I am writing this entry right now; while I was waiting for Liz to come down to take her early lunch break. I also had Chandler with me at that time, Liz’s laptop. And yes, we had decided to give our computers their own individual names. I was originally writing this entry at that time but stopped as soon as I wrote the first sentence since Liz already got there.

And I actually forgot why I was there in the first place. Oh, I remember now, I was there because I had to pick up the two computers at Liz’s place. Since I was also near Ortigas where Liz’s office was, I decided to wait for her so we could have dinner together before I went home. When she arrived at 7/11, we went to the KFC branch located just besides Raffle’s building so we could have our one hour date.

After that, I headed straight for home. Good thing that the travel back to my place was smooth enough despite the bad weather. As soon as I got home, I opened chandler so I could start working on some articles which Liz needs to submit to a client that evening. As soon as I finished posting the articles, I emailed the links to Liz and opened up my Facebook account to check on my Backyard Monsters game. Unfortunately, due to some display driver issues, I was not able to manage our accounts conveniently. I informed Liz of the problem and she suggested that I close the other windows to decrease the chances of triggering another display driver problem. As soon as I did what my girlfriend suggested, I was able to manage the Backyard Monster accounts without much problem. She’s so smart! (Or me just being ignorant about techie stuff: p)

The downside that evening was that I was not able to get a good night’s sleep literally. I was awake the whole evening up until the next morning that Liz got home to my place to stay for the weekends. Apparently, I still have a hang-over about winning first place in the recent Magic: The Gathering Game Day tournament at Ongkeko’s Hobby Shop the day before. I mean I was not really expecting to get that far let alone be the first place. My primary intention was just to join the tourney because my girlfriend wanted me to play since she won’t be able to play due to her current schedule. Furthermore, we just wanted to have a Game Day foil card. Who would have expected that I’d be the Game Day Champion there?! Unfortunately, I am unable to keep my tournament report but I’ll probably try to write one if I still am able to remember what happened in each round.

Other than that, there were just too many things running in my head that night which contributed to me not being able to sleep at all. It just so happens that the vast majority of my thoughts were about my exciting game day experience.

M13 Game Day at OHS

As of the moment, I am just waiting for Liz to finish some tasks online through Chandler. She’ll be using JTMS shortly. For those of you wondering where we got our computer’s names, the name Chandler, well, was the most remarkable name we could have thought at the time we bought the laptop. We made it a point to think of a name which starts with the letter “C” since the laptop’s brand was Compaq. On the other hand, JTMS ar the initials of Magic: The Gathering’s most popular blue-aligned planeswalker, Jace Beleren, or more commonly known as Jace, The MindSculptor.

Jace, The Mindsculptor

So how come we decided on such a name? For one, JTMS is a blue Lenovo S110 netbook model. Since I was a blue player (someone who prefers playing blue decks in Magic: The Gathering), I wanted a blue netbook. Liz primarily had me choose between the colours red and blue. However, even though I had a bit of inclination towards the color red, I was still a blue player at heart so we settled on the color blue.

Since the netbook was color blue, we wanted a name which can somehow represent that color and at the same time, be Magic: The Gathering related. And what other name would be most appropriate to give other than the initials of Magic: The Gathering’s most popular, if not strongest, blue planesalker, Jace, The Mindsculptor?

WINNING MY FIRST TOURNAMENT! M13 GAME DAY AT ONGKEKO’S HOBBY SHOP!

I’ve always wanted to experience how it is to win a tournament. In my case, a Magic: The Gathering tournament. I started playing Magic: The Gathering when I was at the age of 14. The game was originally introduced to me by a cousin who brought the first few cards of Magic: The Gathering. Long story short, I got hooked to the point that I would sometimes spend less for a meal or for more necessary items just to be able to save enough money to buy a card which was worth $5. And at that time, a $5 card was already an expensive card to an unemployed 14-year old high school student like me. Unfortunately, due to the unfavorable peso-dollar exchange rate, that same $5 card was hardly an expensive card compared to some of the good cards available in the market today. So even though I am already earning my own money, it did not make much of a difference when it comes to buying cards for my deck. It’s like I am still a high school student saving my daily hundred peso allowance just to get a card worth 500 pesos at the end of the week or so.

The only difference was back when I was young; I was buying cards at to no end except to play with my cousins who also played the game. I did not participate in tournaments then nor did I have any idea of how to construct an effective tournament legal deck. You could say I was really wasting my allowance to something which did not financially or physically benefit me. But then again, so do the people out there who smoke, who drink, who do drugs, or who play arcade games in malls, or even those who gamble or play the lottery. There are just no free hobby nowadays existing huh?

My apology if the topic went a bit off, it is not in my original intentions to start a debate of where to put your money best. Of course where you invest your money on is your own choice and as long as you’re happy where you are investing it and it is beneficial for you then that is good. Moving forward, I can confidently say that this time, my investment towards Magic: The Gathering is paying off.  Just recently, I won first place at the Magic: The Gathering Game Day tournament held in Ongkeko’s Hobby Shop last Friday, August 3rd. It was an exhilarating and memorable experience especially that it was my first time winning a tournament and my first Game Day event at that. Although I had to admit that I could not have won first place if my last opponent had not given me the last match.

Round 4: UW Delver VS. Esper Control

He prefers to give the last game which was enough to win me the round so that we could both benefit from it. It would be a shame if we’re going to end the game on a draw which can potentially lessen our chance of getting a prize at all. The result then was me bagging the first place and in exchange, we’d share the four booster pack prize. As for the top 8 limited edition foil full-art card,, we decided who would get whoever gets the higher die-roll the two of us. Since I won the die roll, I get to keep the top 8 foil card. Unfortunately, the limited edition Magic: The Gathering play mat had to go to the victor between two more top players.

The play mat was originally to be given to the player who gets first place. Since there were a couple of players who did not agree to this because they also wanted to get equal chance to get the play mat, they agreed that whoever ends up having no losses would still have to fight other players who also do not have any  losses for the play mat. And whoever wins against these other players would get the play mat instead. At that time, I was part of the players who hadn’t lost a game which was part of the reason they included me with their proposal. Since I was not really expecting to win the tournament let alone, be given the privilege to have the last match, I agreed with their proposal. Not thinking that I would actually become the grand winner.

M13 Gameday Victor

Had to admit that I somehow regret agreeing with their proposal but then again, it was not expected and I honestly feel that it was not yet the time for me to earn such a reward. Besides, if the match was not given to me by my last opponent, I would not have made first place in the first place (Sounds redundant). Lesson learned here is that I should be more confident that I have the potential to win a tournament so that I need not agree with any sort of similar proposals in the future. However, the victory still made me more determined to win the next Game Day tourney which will be held on Titan’s Hobby Shop located in Eastwood Libis on August 7th, Tuesday. Also so I could take home another Game Day foil card and hopefully, the limited edition play mat for Liz.
